Seats, seat rails and 'snail'
Evening Folks,
Hope you all had a great weekend. I installed the repainted 'snail' (the air duct to the heater box). If I understand correctly the washers and bolts for this piece were installed on the bonnet when the bonnet was painted then removed when the air duct was installed so they should be body color. The can of spray paint seems to be a pretty good match to 'CJ's' red?
Cheers,
Lynn

I was able to get the seats out but need to locate 1/4 fine thread screws for fastening the rails to the body. One thing that I will try to fix is one of the captive nuts on the drivers side was stripped so will try to weld a new nut in place. This was a bit of PITA to get this fastener out.

Interesting collection of stuff |

The seat is on the table so that I can switch the cushions around so that the control lever is in the correct/outside position. |

The seat back lever was brazed into it's base at the factory but over time it broke the braze and needed to be fixed. |

I decided that pinning it in place would be more durable than trying to glue it in place. |
The seat rails were very greasy but almost fused together, I didn't take any pictures today but will remedy that tomorrow. They had to be taken apart cleaned and straightened, over the course of years they begin to sag and bind but that wasn't the major issue on these. These have been painted and unfortunately they have almost bonded top to bottom where the painted surface/grease/metal were in contact. I think that they will work much better now!
Well that's it for this Sunday, hope you all have a great evening!
Cheers,
Lynn

Hi Drew,
Can't reply except as part of the post so first, thanks for the comment.
I'll save those little spacers in case we need them but the window fitment seems pretty good.Cheers,
Lynn
That's nice work on the heater duct. And the originality books show the bolts and washers are indeed body color for many of these cars so it's concours correct.
ReplyDeleteI also had to weld the captive nut on the seat. That's my one and only welding work. It has been holding, but thank heavens it is under the seat and invisible.
Those found bits have a purpose that I'm sure you recognize. If the window on that side is too far from the top or the B pillar chrome isn't properly spaced then those might come in handy.
Really nice work on pinning the seat recline lever. One of mine came off more than 10 years ago, and a month or 2 ago I finally got around to trying to fix it. I used JB Weld, and it has held for the one attempt I made to use it! I don't expect that it will survive a second time... When it fails, I think I will try your much better approach.
