Seat attachment point

Evening Ya'll,

Not much time to work on 'CJ' today but I did manage to get the captive nut welded on for the seat. Took a fair amount of time to do that simple task. Just getting the car up in the air turned out to be problematic because of the placement of the resonators, someone 'crafted' a  resonator mounting piece that is a bit to close together effectively preventing a jacking block from being used to raise the rear of the car.  I have a homemade one that I had used on my car so may replace the narrow one Chuck has.  It's very difficult to get the rear of the car supported without being able to jack up against the IRS Tie plate.
Here's what had to be done to do the simple task of installing a captive nut for the seat mount:
1) Disconnect the alternator, not sure it has to be done but not going to take a chance as I've heard that welding on a car can damage it if it's still connected.
2) Clean the area so that it can be welded
3) Cut and Fit re-enforcing washer
4) install seat so that the captive nut will be in the proper location
5) weld nut and washer to the car
6) Grind so that it sorta looks like you know what your doing
7) Coat with underseal
8) Fix and reattach wires to alternator

A little frustrated when I couldn't jack it up from under the IRS tie plate

Too narrow for my 4x4 block

The resonator mounting piece is just a bit too narrow and needs to be replaced either with OEM or the piece I have left over from a project on my car.

So finally have the car high enough I can get to the area in question, cleaned off the grime, undercoating and paint

Halfwitted job of welding but it's secure

Undercoated and in a few years will look just as fine.

Well, that's it for today, got another order off to SNG for the gators and shift know nut.  Will start on the ball joints either today or tomorrow.

Cheers,
Lynn

  1. Looks good, Lynn. I think it is fullwitted.

I have to undo my resonator mount to get my 9 inch by 9 inch block of wood in place above the resonators for my 4x4 block.
