Afternoon folks,
First off thanks to Drew and David for their comments yesterday, for some reason I can't post replies to comments but their input is greatly appreciated!
Still working on the front suspension and will be for several days I'm sure.
A couple of boxes of parts came in today from my favorite supplier SNG Barrett. They have taken good care of me over the years and William gets things done.

New splash pans for the right and left undersides |
Interesting finding numero uno, someone used self tapping bolts to hold the upper splash shield on and drilled into the frame rail, probably not a big deal but poor technique to say the least. |
Same thing, self tapping screw on the lower rail |
I took this one to show the fluid leaking at the servo master cylinder |
This one shows why, if you look real close you can see beads forming on the surface of the low pressure hose from the reservoir to the servo master cylinder, I did a google search on the SAE number of the hose, guess what? It's fuel line incompatible with brake fluid. This was done by a well known Idaho Jaguar Shop.... |
Stuff is out of the way and it's time to remove the control arms. |
Checking my Torsion bar setting tool |
Same thing |
Upper control arm |

Drivers side
This picture and the next one are the riddle for the day, look closely and tell me what they have in common that is a big, big issue, answer in tomorrows blog if I remember. |
Passenger side |
Old bushings could have been worse but they are a bit on the ratty side and since we're there. |
New bushings top and bottom, getting the control arms back in will be B___h |
That's it for today, it's time for a beer!
Cheers,
Lynn
The 3/16" diameter (I think) bolts that go through the lower control arms and a groove in the front end of the torsion bars (thereby preventing them from falling out) are missing! Probably won't fall out in practice, but an indication of shoddy work in an area where that is unacceptable.
ReplyDeleteI see two things of concern. First, I agree with David on the small missing bolts that fit in the groove of the torsion bars. Second, on the LH side, I see the top 5/16" bolt that holds the anti-sway bar bushing is not going fully through the nyloc nut. These are not the best ways to secure important suspension connections.
