A couple of small victories

I had a little bit of time to play with Chuck's car today so I removed the console to get at the hinge on the cubby lid and worked on the switches to fix the WS wiper switch that protruded from the dash about 3/8's inch further than the others.  Both turned out to be pretty straight forward to my delight.

The console has to come out to get to the hinge for the lid, I anticipated the wrong or stripped out screws

Turned out that they just needed tightening-one small victory

The switch that protruded from the switch cluster just need to be set in position, I was afraid to push on it until I was sure that there wasn't some other issue.  Looks much better with them all lined up in a row-victory number 2!

When I removed the console I noticed that the rubber gator was cracked, turned out the 'restoration' folks had a fix.

The fix ;-)

I'm going to order a new gator for the gear shift and for the parking brake, it will take a week or so to get the parts from SNG Barrett-my favorite supplier so will weld a new nut on the underside of the car for the seat mount which if you recall was stripped out.  The perhaps replace the ball joints and see how the bushings look.

Cheers,
Lynn

  1. A cracked rubber gaiter is a significant problem when driving long distances. A thin one I had installed in my car was just like the one in your photo after the drive from Austin to San Luis Obispo to start the CCOL. The heat from the engine came into the passenger compartment making it incredibly hot for Mary and me. Jerry put some gaffer's tape on it and that helped a lot, but I ordered one of the thicker ones from SNG when we got home and that helped tremendously.
